Rhyming Times Tables

From Dr. Carol Picard, a teacher educator/elementary math methods at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado:

"I taught math to elementary students with learning disabilities for many years. One skill that was particularly difficult was mastering multiplication and division facts with enough speed to perform multi-digit multiplication problems or long division. Too often children lose their place as they refer to a multiplication table or other aid. As part of my master's thesis, I actually created flash cards with illustrated rhymes to help children remember their multiplication facts. An example is: "9 x 3 looked up to heaven, where the plane wrote 27." (copyright Carol Picard 1990). Recently these rhymes have also been set to music.
